    M4b

I am new here and hoping that I am posting this question in the right place. If not, please point me in the right direction....

Ok, I know how to convert M4P to MP3. But, can you or is there a way to convert M4B to MP3? I am sure this has been brought up before, but so far my searches have not produced any topics on this.

    Re: M4b

I don't know that dMC/dAP are able to decode m4b files or not. This is not listed as one of the file extensions that the mp4/AAC decoder says it can work with, but I can't rule out that it might be able to.
One decoder that can do this is FAAD 2.0 which you can apparently use as a plug-in for Winamp or some other player/converters. Hans-Jurgen might have some more information on this. Otherwise, you can access the website for further information here: http://freshmeat.net/projects/faac/?...ease_id=176456
There is a chance, if FAAD does indeed work as an input plug-in for dMC that you could also use it for dMC/dAP using the WinAmp Plug-in Adapter.

    Best wishes,

The FAAD2 command line decoder and the derived Winamp input plugin do not "know" this file extension either yet, but since this is simply a renamed *.m4a file if you encoded it yourself e.g. with FAAC, adding support to these apps and to dBpowerAMP would be really easy. There also exists a patched foobar2000 input module from the foo_pod developer that enables handling of *.m4b files at the cost of losing *.mp4 support, see the Audiocoding.com forum for more.

Another issue are *.m4b files downloaded from the iTunes Music Store, because they are of course copyright-protected like the *.m4p files with music content. Those files cannot be decoded by FAAD2 or one of its plugin implementations. But iTunes and the iPod will if you are authorized to play them.

Last but not least there is another external Winamp input plugin which comes with the latest v5.05 lite version that would play these protected files, too, if you have an authorized iTunes version on your PC (uses the QuickTime decoder then).
