Re: Real Audio Codec crashes DMC

Just a correction to my last post.

I put in my old procedure (cut and paste problem

I've found that some codecs really don't like files normalized
to 100%. I get distortion on the loud peaks of my recordings
which doesn't exist in the original. The 16 bit wave 8000hz
conversion in the dBpowerAMP Music Converter Release 11 seems
to be one of these. If I normalize to 80% it goes away.

Setting Normalize to 80% didn't seem to help. Then I read that
Normalize only boosts the amplitude, it doesn't cut it. To get
around this I do a Volume Quieten to 80% and then a Volume
    Normalize to 80%.

    My run procedure:

Select raw Palm files for conversion
Set dBpowerAmp for Wave 16bit 8000hz mono
    Set Power Pack DSP for:
    DSP To 24 Bit
    Volume Quieten 80%
Volume Fade In=1000msec Out=1000msec (gets rid of initial
"bump" in my Plam Pilot recordings.)
Volume Normalize 80%, Max 15, Simple
    DSP To 16 Bit (Dither)
    Set Destination Folder
Press "Convert" button and wait for all files to be converted.

Select 16bit intermediate files for conversion
Set dBpowerAmp for Real Audio 8000hz Voice 28kbps Single
    Set Power Pack DSP for:
    Nothing (clear all DSP functions)
    Set Destination Folder
Press "Convert" button and wait for all files to be converted.

This has yet to cause a crash for me.

Maybe this will work for other set-ups as well.
(Obviously you'll have to select an intermediate conversion that's as
good or better than your conversion resolution and frequency.)
