Cannot cancel dMC or dMC Audio CD Input

Ok, here's an annoying feature/bug I have encountered. I cannot cancel or otherwise stop dMC or dMC Audio CD Input by using the Cancel button, or the X to close the conversion window. The only thing that cancels them is Task Manager or, if I'm dealing with a CD, removing the CD from the drive - in which case I get a "disc scratched" error instead of anything more meaningful.

It doesn't matter what I'm vonverting to (even Test conversion). It doesn't matter whether the conversion is going ok or not (like if it hangs due to codec or file problems or going smoothly). It's unstoppable :p

I think I'm up-to-date with all versions: dMC release 11 (candidate 1); Powerpack release 5 (reg).

    Added info:
Windows 2000 Pro 5.00.2195- all up to date with all patches and SP 4 .
AMD Athlon XP 1800+. 512MB ram.
One LG CD/RW and one LITE-ON DVD/RW . These drives appear to work OK, though at times one or the other seems to freeze shut (especially after burning with Nero v 6 which I just installed recently).

Oodles of gigs on 2 partitions on one hard disk.

I have dMC r11 beta 3. I don't have this problem with either dMC or with dMC Audio CD Input. Not that this is a help for ChristinaS. but it might help start a discussion that could pinpoint who is having this problem and where it might be coming from.
    Best wishes,
    Bill Mikkelsen

I know the Rip to Ram is only able to quit after the track has ripped and the same is true for DSP effects which will only quit after completing.

Aha! I am always using Rip to ram! Ok, thanks. So I'll cancel using Task Manager, no big deal :smile2:

It is just a limitation because the Ripping goes onto another thread and there is no provision to stop it - you know features are added later - put it this way if I was to write dBpowerAMP from scratch it would be quite different.

Re: Cannot cancel dMC or dMC Audio CD Input

I'm having a problem much like Christina's, though it seems a bit more serious:

                * I tried stopping the ripping process because it was moving really slow (estimated to take 25 minutes for something that's normally less than 10)

                * It wouldn't stop, so I had to end it through the Task Manager

                * The next time I tried to rip the same project, it wanted to take an hour this time. So I ended it through the Task Manager again.

                * I then tried uninstalling dbPowerAMP and reinstalling it.

                * Then I tried ripping again, for the third time. This time it wants to take 1.5 hours to complete the task. It's still going, very slooowly.

I'm afraid to cancel it again, because clearly there is some sort of cumulative effect going on.

Can somebody tell me how to return the program to its original performance levels??

                Thanks in advance!

                Joshua

PS. I absolutely love your software. It's worked flawlessly up until now.

                PPS. System information:

                Basic Version 11 of dbPowerAMP
                Win XP Home SP2
                1GB RAM
                3GHz CPU

Christina made a reference to some other way to rip (that doesn't involve ripping to RAM) but I don't see that option.

Okay, scratch all that. This appears to have been a temporary problem, perhaps associated with ripping a particular song. I put in a new disc, and everything's blazing fast again.

Often a reboot of the PC (full shut down) can work well (I say that, even though my development machine hasn't shutdown (always slept) in about 3 months, I am impressed with the stability of the AMD 64).

Aren't AMD's more stable then Pentiums in general?

I feel like they are. I have to use a P4 here at work (it's not horrible or anything), and I would really rather have my AMD64. The AMD64s also dont produce near the amount of heat that the P4's do which can definitly help the stability.

                            lol I like my Pentium4 but I prefer my brother's AMD64 3200+ for gaming!

Can't get rid of Nina Simone! Help

Hello All, I've been enthusiastically using the software,(player, converter Sveta etc for Windows 2000) until late last night when the player wouldn't stop looking for a Nina Simone track on a disc that wasn't in there. Slept on it and this morning re-installed everything and deleted all files with Nina Simone and still the player is looking for her track. What's gone wrong. Should I delete everything and start again?
Hope I've posted this to the right bit of forum
                              thanks in advance
