iTunes isn't evil. But iTunesMusicStoreDRMProtectionIsEvil was just way too long of a name. Besides most people associate iTunes as the music store anyway, so it's convienient. The player itself though is what I was refering to. I like it and it does some handy conversion for you if need be. It also has a great tag-editing interface IMO. I like the way it organizes songs, and then features like volume normalizing, gapless burning, and importing to a few good formats are all pluses for it.

As to why I suggested mp4/aac: I like the quality, and it's not a MS product. In another post I had explained that while WMA is good quality, and most users around the world can play it, as they're running Windows, it's ANOTHER MS product and they don't need an even bigger foothold in the Digital Media world. Their Janus DRM is already getting them enough business in that aspect, and the Janus (as I understand it) requires WMA formatting. So I don't want to push it more towads becoming an industry standard than what it is already is working on becoming. I don't like OGG Vorbis because it's not quite as widely accepted/used yet. WMP and iTunes don't support it, and those are the only two players I have on my machine. Perhaps if it were to catch on a bit more I'd like it better. I know, I know, heaven forbid I use something thats not popular.

I guess I just like MP4/AAC better... Other than the open-source thing. That is very cool about OGG, but that doesn't matter to most non-programmers.

Edit: If I'm not making sense today it's because I dont get to sleep until Monday. We're releasing a new Financial Management suite at work on Monday, and its a little buggy yet.... hahahahahahahahahaha. Little? I crack me up.

Then download the directshow filters or plug-in for both and they will play just fine.

      http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/ for i-tunes

      http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/ for WMP

Alrighty, well how about: I simply like MP4/AAC and will stick to it.

Thank you though, now I know those are out there.

Note that using the DirectShow filters will allow WMP to play them, but WMP won't add the ogg files to your media library.

And if you want another popular player, why not try Winamp?

Winamp is one of my favorites, just to let you know. You should really try it out.
