Serious Problem

I just recently finished resampling 400 cd's after iTunes decided to mess up my libarary. I don't use iTunes, but I was curious if it would import my library. It hosed everything including all the ID3Tags and directory structure.

I've just discovered that a very large percentage of my resampling is hosed. There were no error messages during 99% of the conversions however the whole cd gets skipped over on my iPod. I'm writing to mp4 on.

I run under XP Pro.

I know the problem is with the files because if I try to rewrite the ID3Tag's in My Music Libarary it crashes when it hits the cd's that won't play.

I taken a few cd's at random and resampled again and they appear fine. I have slowed down the read speed from Maximum to 40, but I doubt thats the issue. I have also recently uninstalled iTunes including the iPod service that goes along with it. But if that was the problem, then resampling the cd should have the same problem.

Is there anything I can try before I have to resample my whole collection again? I will double check if the screwed up cd's can be played from My Music Collection.

Make sure you have the latest firmware for the iPod, early firmwares had problems on certain files. Yes try dBpowerAMP Audio Player to check the audio files, perhaps even use the mp4 >> acc codec, then aac >> mp4 (all lossless), might put the tags right. I know iTunes can mess things up with its 'sound check' feature.

Thanks Spoon. I will check the files within the library tonight. The thing is iTunes it out of the picture. All the resampling I did was post a complete delete of all my old files including playlists. I have all the current patches and iPod firmware. I reformatted my iPod after resampling. The problem seems to be with the files. I've also noticed now that when I play by cd on the iPod it sometimes skips the first song of the cd. I have to skip back to get it to play.

I just don't want to spend 20 min * 300-350 cd's resampling them again.

Is there any chance uninstalling iTunes has contributed to the problem. I don't even have the iPod service running. Which I've discovered is an issue when trying to connect to the iPod. Sometimes I have to undock and redock before the music library will connect.

Hey Spoon. Still working through the issues.

It looks like I have 5 distinct problems.

1) occasionally a song is corrupted when written. You can't tell until you either try to play it or rewrite the ID3Tag. Then when you can't do either (the tag rewrite causes the full crash), you know you have to resample the song. I don't see a solution to this other than trying all my cd's in order and finding the corrupt songs. The other way is to try and rewrite the tags, 1 cd at a time, crash, log out of windows and log back in and take note that at least 1 song in the cd is goofed.

2) The issue with the iPod skipping whole cd's is unexplainable. I reformatted my iPod and applied the lastest firmware again and copied transferred everything back over. Most cd's seem to be working. I can't explain what went wrong.

3) When selecting a cd to play from the iPod it skips the first song. You can skip back to it and it plays. The playlist shows the proper song count. This may be an iPod thing.

4) When viewing the ID3Tags (via the popop when you hover over a song in the libarary or under Windows Explorer) the last song shows the time in front of the song title. It almost suggests something is not being written quite right. If that were the case is it possible this could relate to 3 above?

5) After wiping my iPod clean, I transferred all 4859 songs (highlighted them all) it failed to transfer at least 1 cd. It looks like one of the rewrite attempts corrupted the files for one of the cd's. Initially it looked like I had reached a memory limit because I could transfer about 4848 songs over just fine. If I transferred the remaining cd over it worked by itself. However, based on how the files show up in the iPod they appear corrupted. Just to confirm there should be no memory limits in the number of songs I can transfer at once correct?

At least it appears I don't have to resample my whole collection.

You could try Sveta to transfer the tracks to the iPod (there is an advanced option in Sveta to verify the file transfers to the iPod).
