    problem:dBpowerAMP cannot open Wavepack files

I downloaded a few files with the extension .wv. After a search I found out the were compressed with wavepack.
I downloaded the codec from Codec Central but with all files (around 20) I get the message the file ... could not be opened.
In foobar2000 and Winamp (with wavepack plugin) the files play without a problem.
With Winamp I can decode them to a wavefile with the Nullsoft diskwriter plugin.
This wavefile can be encoded with dBpowerAMP to Ogg, mp3 or whatever format I want them in. But I find this a bit tedious.

I use Win XP pro, dBpoweramp10.1
In dMC Configuration wavepack is mentioned under installed Compression Codecs and under installed Input codecs.
Can anyone give me any direction in how to solve this problem?

    Much appreciated.

P.S. I searched this forum but I couldn't find anyone with the same problem.
I'm afraid the downloaded files are the problem but I hope someone can point me to a better solution.

No, it's not the download file.
I created a wavepack file and found that dB Audio Player (dAP) would not automatically recognize the wavepack file (right-clicking on the file I had no option to play it but it would play if I clicked on Open With and specified dAP).
To fix this, go Start>All Programs>dBpowerAMP>Configuration>File Associations and click on the box for wavepack. That seems to solve the problem.
    Best wishes,

      Thank you for your reply.
To be honest I can't find the file associations you mentioned.
In my Start>All Programs>dBpowerAMP>Configuration directory there's only dMC configuration and dMC Audio CD configuration.
In neither of them I can find anything about file associations.
Also in the directory on the harddisk where I've installed dBpowerAMP I can't find anything about file associations.

I have reinstalled dBpoweramp but that didn't install a file association icon.
Is it a part of the PowerPack?

It should be in Start > Programs > dBpowerAMP Player > Configuration > File Associations - at least this is where I have it.

I've installed dBplayer and now have the icon file associations.
I ticked the .wv box but I still can't open the files.
When I try to convert them it still say's the file could not be opened.
When I try to play the files dBplayer says the file is 0:00 long and won't play.
I think the files are the problem.

          Thanks for the help.

Don't know if this means anything to you, but I saw reference to there being 2 wavepack file extensions: .wv and .wvc and they go in pairs. The way In understand it is that you may need to have both files in order to reconstitute the audio file from which they were created, always depending on how the wavepack encoding was done. It seems sometimes it involves both files and other times it involves only the .wv .

I personally am very confused over the raison d'être of such files  :o

But now, since you have means to play those files, if I understand correctly, you can use dMC Auxiliary Input to record to wav the audio being played through the sound card by whatever player you can use to play them.

Re: problem:dBpowerAMP cannot open Wavepack files

Wavepack can be used in different ways.
If they are accompanied by those .wvc files the .wv are encoded lossy with information in the .wvc files to make the original wave-file.
So .wv + .wvc is lossless.
Without .wvc-file the .wv can either be lossless or the lossy part from above.
Since the files are about 18 to 25 MB I assume they are lossless.
I can't see an advantage in lossy files which are over 15 MB in size.
I can see the advantage in having those .wvc and .wv files if the lossy part is around 6 MB and can be played on your portable player.
You can use the original files to play the songs lossless on your stereo at home.

I can play the files in winamp and with diskwriter decode them to wave.
Then I can encode the files to Ogg and Ape using dMC.
It just would be easier to directly encode the files to Ogg with dMC.

              Thanks for your help

The wave pack files might be v4 wave pack, dBpowerAMPs codec has not yet caught up.

Re: problem:dBpowerAMP cannot open Wavepack files

According to a textfile I found with the files, they are indeed Wavepack 4.1 files.
Are there plans for an update of the Wavepack-codec for dMC in the (near) future?
