    dbPowerAmp crashing

I've been using dbPowerAmp for awhile and never had a single problem. It's definitely a great program! But...I installed the AIFF codec and ever since then, my computer keeps crashing when converting from WAV to MP3. I'm not even using the AIFF conversion when this happens. It's happening EVERY time now.

I used the dbPA uninstaller and it went through it's thing. But, I noticed that the program icon was still visible in the "START > PROGRAMS" menu. I decided to reinstall the program again anyway and still have the same crashing problem happening. I also noticed after the reinstallation that the AIFF codec was still on the list even though I didn't reinstall that codec.

I'd really like to get dbPowerAmp uninstalled cleanly so that I can revert back to where it was. I've never had a problem with the program before and it's really bothering me that this happened. :o :vmad:

    Thanks!

    Re: dbPowerAmp crashing

When you uninstalled dMC, did you also uninstall the codecs as well? (They uninstall separately).
Also, if you were using the AIFF codec, did you have the Eden Swap dsp enabled in the Power Pack. If so, make sure you turned off that function in the Power Pack.
Assuming you either that you did these things or that you have now tried them and they didn't help, try uninstalling dMC and all codecs. Open your Registry Editor (Start>Run type in regedit). Find H_KEY_CURRENT_USER in the menu at left, browse through program files until you find the Illustrate folder. Select that folder and delete it from the registry. Exit the registry editior and restart the computer. Now reinstall dMC and your various codecs (although not, obviously your AIFF codec).

    Best wishes,
    Bill Mikkelsen

Many thanks for the reply Bill!
I didn't uninstall the codec because I thought the the uninstaller that came with dbPowerAmp would do that. I'm comfortable editing the registry so I'll try that out. A quick question: if I delete the Illustrate folder in the H_KEY_CURRENT_USER directory, will that also delete the codecs or should a look somewhere else in the registry for that?

I would uninstall the codecs and their registry entries will be deleted when you delete the Illustrate registry folder. If you browse that folder you can find and delete individual codecs.

There are some special considerations for Win 95 & 98: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/Windows95-Update.htm
