    Ttl?

Not sure if this is the correct forum -

While testing some auto cd players with (mp3) cd's made by dBPowerAMP,
i kept seeing "No TTL" in the view window of the cd player. Anyone know
    what this is referencing?

And 1 more - what does "clipping" do to an audio file?

    thanks,
    savagcl

No TTL =?= No Title :smile2:

Unscientifically, clipping is what happens when the volume is too high and audio distortion occurs, and the peaks of the wave are literally "clipped" off so as not to exceed some threshold. It will sound like screeching. Sometimes referred to as "too hot", probably because a UV meter will show it in the red zone.

Sometimes it seems to be a consequence of a volume boost (or even normalization) applied indiscrimately.

      Ok, Christina, thanks.

During normalization (using MP3Gain) on groups of files, it would do some
clipping and was wondering what exactly it was doing and why. You
      answered it for me.

Altho i couldnt tell the difference upon playing the normalized versions but
i didnt have to adjust the volume even once......

      thanks again,

Well, depending on how much clipping it does, it may in fact sound awful. Not all normalization or volume boosting results in clipping either, it depends on the original levels I guess. I... mmm.... tend to do it by ear .... which is my roundabaout way of saying that I don't really know in advance when it will occur and how to avoid it altogether in a general manner :o :D
