    ID TAG Editing

Here is what shows on right-clicking/ an MP3 file and selecting Edit Tag:

    ID Tag
    Artist xxxxx
    Title xxxxx
    Album xxxxx
    Track xxxxx
    Year xxxxx
    Genre xxxxx
    Comment xxxxx
    Encoded by xxxxx

    File Details
    File xxxxx
    Location xxxxx
    Type xxxxx
    Extension xx
    Length (m:ss) xxx
    Size xxxxkb
    Uncompressed xxxxkb
Comp. Ratio xxxx to xxx (%)

    Average Bitrate xx
    Frequency xxxxx
    Channels x
    Level MPEG x Layer x
    Variable Bit Rate Mp3
    Encoded by xxxx

    ID Tag xxxxxxxxxx
    Encoded By xxxxx
    Genre xxxxxxxx
    Artist xxxxxxx
    Title xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I remove everything in the top portion except the Title. Save it, and when
i open it again, all the fields i removed are back. Since the other two
parts cannot be edited i figured the top part is being re-filled from them.

Since i only want the Title to show, is there a way to stop it from being
    re-populated?

    thanks,

You need dMC R11 from the beta section.

i can only think of two things to look at.

        1. programs-->dbpoweramp music converter-->configuration-->dmc configuration" and click on "id tag" options to see if anything odd in there.

        2. what is the idtag version of this file? is it "id3v2.3 & id3v1.0?

          What shows is:

          Monkeys Audio
          Tag Creation Ape2

          Mp3
          Tag Creation SmartApe2 & ID3v1
          Write ID3v1 Version v1.1
          ID3v1 UTF8 Read Yes
          ID3v1 UTF8 Write No
          Write ID3v2 Unicode No
          Write ID3v2 Version v2.3

Several files (songs) says either of a, b, c:
          a. ID3v2.3 & ID3v1.0
          b. ID3v1.1
          c. ID3v1.0

Most of these files has (a) above.

          thanks,

            Re: ID TAG Editing

this narrows it down. can you go to

start-->programs-->dbpoweramp music converter-->configuration-->dmc configuration then "id tag options" and change "tag creation" to "id3v2 & id3v1"

then do a conversion of one track and see if you can edit and save the tags correctly.

i have just done a test and made my settings the same as yours and indeed i get the same results. i cannot change/alter the id tag.

              Razgo,

              Yep, that did it!
I pulled these few songs from the mp3 newsgroups and couldn't do
              anything with the tags.

Looks like i'll have to convert all of them.

              Appreciate the help, Thank You,

well maybe not? as Spoon would need to identify this as a bug and if that's the case , then Spoon would be able to make a fix for it. but best wait for further confirmation from Spoon. and i am no expert on the reasons for all these different tag options. there must be some advantage of using ape tags? i don't know. i just leave things as default.

Can you delete all tag fields using Delete all tags? Followed by a conversion using Tag from Filename ?

                    Your right, Christina,

It may be a bug, even if the files did play ok. Not being able to mod the
Tag fields is a problem (minor, but still). After conversion these 3 fields
were gone from the bottom group of Tag data.
                    Encoded By xxxxx
                    Genre xxxxxxxx
                    Artist xxxxxxx

I could only delete data from the top group of tag items. the remainder
could be selected (highlighted) but a delete would not work. Next time i
pull a file (soon), i'll check each field and see which can be modded.

One thing i noticed, if i removed some fields from the top group, got out,
and re-looked, the fields had been restored (i suspect from the data in
                    the bottom group.

Bah, I remember fiddling with this too until it just suddenly worked. Didn't bother to figure out why and why not at the time.

But I remember using the "Delete All" tags button, possibly several times even, when deleting individual ones didn't stay deleted.

                        Re: ID TAG Editing

Ok, I pulled another song from the newsgroup. It was not an "Ape2" but
a ID TAG = "ID3v1". Same thing, removing all from the top group (ID TAG)
(except the title) did nothing after closing/re-opening. All the fields were
                        re-populated.

After running through the converter, the bottom group(ID TAG) was
modded to only have the ID TAG and The Title fields.
                        ID TAG = IDv3v2.3 & ID3v1.0,
                        Title = UnchainedMelody

Now, the top group only contains the title field. The other (top) fields are
                        present but can be edited.

Oh, the Delete All had no effect on the newsgroup version of the song.

And now for something completely different: I have got to find a
cd-player (auto) that will play mp3 cds, cd-r and cd-rw for a reasonable
price - back to google.
