Converting WMA to MP3

Hey, when I download songs from Kazaa they are in Windows Media Audio format. Now if I understand this correctly, you can convert these WMA files into much smaller mp3 files, correct?

So I right click the wma file (5.16 mb) and i click convert to...mp3 (lame) and it goes through the converting process. But when i find the new file, it is still a 5.16 mb WMA file! Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

By the way, could it have anything to do with it being at 192 setting of quality? If yes, then why does it still say it's a WMA file, not MP3?!?

Unless you selected to delete the existing file during conversion, the original file you downloaded is still there.

Usually any files you have converted are in the C:\Converted Music\ folder, unless you have specified elsewhere - check to see if they're there.

By the way, by converting to MP3 you are lowering the sound quality of the file, even if it is smaller.

Ok, so by lowering the quality I decreased the size of the file, however:

1.) At what quality do people who are able to put like 100 songs on one CD set for the quality level?

2.) The new file is still a WMA file, not MP3 (i right click the file and select properties). Why does it say this?

Right click on WMA >> Convert To >> mp3 (Lame)

Select the option 'Same Folder as Original'
