Locking up when converting to cda

Recently my machine is locking up when selecting multiple tracks from mmc
and selecting convert to Audio cd....this has happened 3 times successively
    with the same songs selected.

the codecs are all ape,mp3pro and one flac
and all codecs are the latest except ape which is 3.97

I know it works as i have used it many times before.

    My versions are.......

    dmc 10 beta 3
    power pack release 3
    cd writer 1.1
    Aux release 3
    file selector 4b

    Winxp/sp1

just recently(2 months?) installed the latest beta of dap (3 beta 4 ?)
why does the version of dap not show in dmc configuration ?

Please help as i simply can not live without this selection on cd

Re: Locking up when converting to cda

Do you get the same lockup if you start by opening dBpowerAMP CD Writer and converting the files from there?
Are you trying to create a standard cd or an mp3/wma/some other digital format disk and, if so what format and settings have you specified?
Are you trying to convert files while you are playing them? If so, can you convert ok when you are not playing them? Are you trying convert a whole batch of files of different formats at once or are you converting all your ape files first, mp3pro next, FLAC after that? If you haven't tried converting files of one type at a time, does the program stop freezing up if you only convert files of one type at a time?
Are some or all of your source files in a different frequency than 44.1 khz, other than 16 bit, other than 2 channel? If so, you might want to enter dMC Configuration to make sure that you have professional frequency conversion enabled.
Those are some ideas off the top of my head. Please give them a try. If none of the above work, please post back with the details and we'll see if come up some better ideas.
    Best wishes,

Re: Locking up when converting to cda

I am not trying to play while converting.....
have not tryed to convert them from cd writer
      converting to standard audio cd
      professional frequency conversion is enabled

have selected multiple files in mmc....ape,flac and mp3pro and on the selected tracks button chose convert to...and then audio cd....

just tried some individual test conversions and it seems i have a problem with the flac codec as i am getting a decompression errors on these files,"unable to open decompression codec" or something similar...

Goin to try a reinstall of this codec and try again....will post back later.

      Thanks for the input

Re: Locking up when converting to cda

I think part of your problem could relate to trying to convert multiple file types at once. Tried converting 2 mpc, one mp3 and an ogg file at once to cd. They all converted but one track (the mp3 was severely truncated-an 8 minute plus track came out as a 3 minute plus cd track).
So try limiting conversions to a single file type at a time.

Re: Locking up when converting to cda

Well i reinstalled the flac codec but it still locked up my pc,this time on a test conversion.

I can live with something not working but it shouldnt lock up or crash my machine...this makes 4 hard shutdowns today :(

This is the exact same way i always make my cd's

How can i convert the different codecs seperately(from mmc) so i can get them all on one cd?

Re: Locking up when converting to cda

You CAN get tracks endoded to different formats on a single cd. All I am advising is that you if you convert files as a group that each group of files you convert to cd is of the same file type. Then you can use CD Writer to get the tracks in the order you want them. Or you can convert them in order.

I repeated my previous experiment and had my computer hang (plus one track onverted to 5 seconds). In my case Microsoft generated an error report, sent me to the website of the company responsible for one of my cd writing drivers (Simplisoft) and I was advised to upgrade my driver (asfi).

Since I have only ever had this problem when trying to convert files of different filetype at once, I have to advise you not to do so yourself, even if you have not had problems doing so in the past.

It also sounds like you have special problems with your FLAC file and/or your FLAC codec. If you convert the FLAC file separately, does it work for you? If so, please follow my advice in the first and third paragraphs. If it does not work separately, can you convert the FLAC file to wav and then to cd (separately, of course), can you play the file. If not, you may need to uninstall your FLAC codec, delete it from your registry, and reinstall it.

Re: Locking up when converting to cda

I finally was able to get a cd burned by converting the tracks one at a time,to audio cd,and skipping the ones that were giving compression errors.
Did not know it would work like that, but then i never had any reason to try before, still have to wonder why the problem now...maybe random chance that all selections before were all of the same type..?....or just minor flucuations in the space time continuum...?...

I had already reinstalled the flac codec and have had no more errors with it,
now the errors are with ape so i guess i will reinstall it since it is a little outdated anyway.will do that tonite as I am off to work

Re: Locking up when converting to cda

Is there anything in particular that these tracks have in common (might be level of compression or the presence of a semi-colon in the file name)?
Can you convert those ape to wav and wav to cda?
                    Best wishes,

Try right click on one of those ape files >> Convert To >> Test Conversion - does that work or same decomp error?

                          Sorry...missed your reply.

Test conversion is how i identified the problem files, one at a time .
if i try multiple files and there is one of these generating the error then i get the freeze up.

It appears that when converting, with test conversion, one at a time there is only the decompression error with no freeze up.

But i believe the last lock up was when converting a flac or mp3 to wave
