    Midi to Wav

I read and followed Razgo's FAQ about how to do this but cant get it to
    work.

When i look at my sound controls i dont have a "Stereo Mix" selection. I do
have MidiSynth, Analog Mix, CD Digital, What U Hear, Microphone, and
    Wave/MP3 selections as recording selections.

Using Analog Mix or Wave/MP3 gives me a 1k file as output.
The test recording level never shows any volume movement and when i
press the (start) record button, it just closes (and gives a 1k file output).

    What am i doing wrong?

    Thanks,
    savagcl

Make sure you are looking at Recording options, not Playback options.

Try What U Hear as an input source if you don't have stereo mix. Disable all the others.

The test recording level shows nothing because for the input source selected there was nothing to test. The same for when you used the start recording button.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if this works.

Yes, they are but it looks good on your "achievement" wall.
Well, better than a blank wall anyway.

              Not really a fridge.
I'm a retired military type and we all (most of us anyway) have an
              achievement wall.
Normally its a wall devoted to the medals, ranks, awards, achievement
certificates and honoraries that one has obtained during his/her service
              time.
The wall promotes a sense of accomplishment, teamwork, pride and duty in
oneself. It also promotes a sense of pride in your country/ heritage and
encourages one to do a better than average job (whatever that job is).

Maybe what the youth of today needs is an achievement wall. Wouldn't
              hurt anyway.

Well, my patch of real estate available for such is pretty much limited to the fridge door - the rest of it (including the ubiquitous bumper stickers) being taken by my kids' own achievements - which they actually seem to dismiss as irrelevant as it looks to them as if only a parent can consider them achievements - go figure :D

It may seem that way but they know and if called to task about it, would
speak up. Kids are a lot more savvy today than we were.

                          Re: Midi ti Wav

After reviewing the above msgs, i have to ask - When converting a midi file,
there's no way to go straight to a mp3 output file?
One of the recording options i have in the same window as "What U Hear"
is WAV/MP3. If i selected this (instead of "What U Hear") and set the Aux-
converter to MP3 wouldn't it produce an MP3 file? Thereby, eliminating the
need to create a wav file first.

                          thanks,
                          savagcl

Might try this and see what happens....

Never mind! Tried it and it would only record about 2k then close the
                            recording window.
Ah, well, would have been nice to be able to skip that intermediate step.
                            Lesson learned.

                              An update.

If you leave the recording device set to "What U Hear" (or stereo mix) and
then in the converter, select mp3 instead of wave, it will work and you get
                              a mp3 output.

To think, i spent most of yesterday going from midi to wav then to mp3...
                              Another lesson...
