I am using the music converter to convert wavs to wma and rm files. It worked fine until I installed windows xp sp2. Now the program crashes when trying to convert to real audio (error msg: MusicConverter.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close....), but still works with windows media and a number of other codecs. Has anyone seen this problem or have any suggestions on fixing it?

If you feel like reading through some techical bulletins here goes:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...t=windowsxpsp2 (this one mentions media streaming)
Don't know the solution yet. I have one PC that was clobbered by SP2 and I have yet to assess the damage and the solutions if there are any.
You may want to uninstall all of dMC's components and reinstall all of them again, it might help.
For Real Media you could try Real Producer Basic and see if that one works any better right away.Last edited by ChristinaS; September 08, 2004, 04:23 AM. -

Hopefully that will take care of the problem.

Re: Music converter crashes with XP SP2
Has anyone been able to update the Real Audio Codec as I have some stuff in Real Audio format that I would like to convert & get tired of Music Converter crashing every time.
Where do I find the updated versions for the latest codecs etc..?
Thanks
morvyn
BTW, I have the latest version of Real Player installed & I have recently uninstalled Dbpoweramp and re-installed it to find no change!Comment

Re: Music converter crashes with XP SP2
For updated codecs, use either the Codec Central link above, or check the beta forums.
Regarding you uninstalling and reinstallind dMC: did you uninstall everything, as in all the codecs and DMC, then delete the folder it was installed in? If so, you might want to try the latest version of dMC, also in the beta forums, Release 11 RC1.
Also, are your Real Audio files the correct extension? I remember reading somewhere about it only converting the Real audio files, not the metafile type.
In regards to SP2: I'm using SP2 with dMC and it's working fine for me. I've converted many songs and ripped a good number of CDs without any trouble.Comment

Re: Music converter crashes with XP SP2
I have just uninstalled my software & deleted the folder & then reinstalled using the updated version & updated power pack and yet when trying to convert to Real Media from WmA, the program just crashes, no matter what the setting.Comment

Re: Music converter crashes with XP SP2
Can you listen to the file in Real Audio?
Have you tried a test conversion? If the test conversion crashes, then the problem resides between dMC and the file itself, not the conversion. If it does not crash, then the problem resides in an area that I don't know about.Comment
