    dMC10.1 Rips Too Slowly

Installed dMC10.1. Rip time was 1 hour 28 minutes. Fiddled with settings but still no difference.

Uninstalled dMC10.1 and reinstalled prior version (dMC9). Rip time now 18 minutes!

    Any ideas? Windows 2K / PIII - 933MHz / 768MB

I assume you are talking about ripping times for the same cd in both cases.
What settings are you converting to (format, bitrate, frequency, channels)?

      Yes, same CD. Settings are/were:
      Format: Mp3(Lame)
      Bitrate: 192Kps
      Frequency: 44100 KHz
      Channel: Stereo:
      Rip speed: Max

Strange problem. But it might be that you have your ripping priority set too high, especially if you have "rip to ram" option checked. In that case you should be able to get better results with dMC 10.1 by unchecking the "rip to ram" option or by lowering the priority for your ripping.

If neither of these ideas helps, please let us know.

Try ripping to 'Test Conversion' in 10.1, how long does that take?

            Re: dMC10.1 Rips Too Slowly

            Tried "Test Conversion" same result:
            Ripping Speed x0.4
            Realtime Encoding 0.3x
Went back to Mp3(Lame) and reducer Ripping Speed to 8x, then 6x - same result as above.

Looked for Ripping-to-RAM option and could not find. i thnink this is a dMC9 ooption only.

Went to the Configuration Utilty, these are the settings:
            CD Communication : 2000 / NT Device 10
            Command Set: MMC

            I'm using PowerPack Release 3
            Mydrive is a DVD-ROM 16x

Again its strange dMC9 gives satisfactory performance, but dMC10.1
rips and encodes at about 0.3 to 0.4 times. That means a 36 minute CD will take nearly 2 hours!

              Ed-
The ‘rip to ram” option is a power pack option that you access through the Power Pack icon on the Audio CD Input Screen (on the upper right hand side of the screen just above the “Rip as One” button. Check to make sure this option is switched OFF (unchecked).

You lower the priority of the conversion from the window that shows the progress of the conversion from a menu by the label “Priority” in the lower left hand corner. If you have priority level set to above normal or to high, lower it to normal or below normal (you might try setting it to below normal even if it is already set to normal). Paradoxically, lowering the priority of your rip will sometimes allow ripping to go faster.

So check these ideas out and let us know whether they make any difference (these ideas have proven effective in some other cases).

              Best wishes,

                Thank you Bill.

Unchecked Rip to RAM. Left Rip Speed at Max and Priority at High.

CD is now ripping between 4x and 5x - which is satisfactory.

Odd that dMC9 did not have this issue, but I'm satsified.

Ah, set the priority to Normal, or low, the latest dMC will warn if high is selected (it slows CD ripping).

                    Spoon,

Thanks for the help and advice. Think I got it figured out.

Checked/selected Rip to Ram, andthen set RAM amount to 128MB. (My system has 768MB with nearly 500MB free.)

Used a Priority setting of Normal.

Results: Ripping speeds in excess of 9x and Realtime encoding of 4x! :smile2:

                    Thanks

                    Ed
