    WMA9 Codec not working

I'm trying to covert WMA Lossless files to MP3's. I received the popup stating I needed a codec. I downloaded the codecs from Codec Central, followed the 3 steps, including rebooting, and still no luck. I continue getting an error message stating "The CODEC required to compress this file could not be opened." How do I correct or get around this issue?? Thanx.

Can you play the file? With what player? Can it play in Windows Media Player 9?

    So you followed these steps?
    Download
*** Follow these 3 steps, I get so many emails because just one item is downloaded! ***
    1. Windows Media Audio v9 System Codecs (3.8MB) [not required if Media Player 9 or above is installed]
    2. WMA v9 Codec Release 1.3b (260KB)
    3. Reboot computer (full shutdown, not hibernate, suspend or sleep)
Did you also install the codecs in the same folder as the rest of dMC?

If you've done all that and is still doesn't work, is it possible your wma file is protected?

      Re: WMA9 Codec not working

I can play the files in Windows Media Player 9 and WinAmp 5.

Yes, I followed those 3 steps exactly, and in the order listed. I installed Windows Media Audio v9 System Codecs in the dMC folder, and WMA v9 Codec Release 1.3b (260KB) defaults to the dMC folder on installation.

I don't believe the files are protected. They're my own songs. Originally, I had them on cdr as .cda files, and I was unable to convert them from that either. I tried ripping them using dMC Audio CD Input and got the same error message that I mentioned before. So I saved them to my computer using Windows Media Player 9, thus converting then to the WMA Lossless files. Then I tried to covert the Lossless files to MP3's, with no luck.

The problem is with the mp3, try converting the wma file to wav, does that work?

          Re: WMA9 Codec not working

Interesting.....when I first tried that I got the same error message. But then on a whim, I changed the frequency setting to 44100, from what it was defaulted to and it worked!

Random question - does dMC not support .cda files as far as converting them? Just as an experiment, I tried converting the original files on disc to MP3's, and it was a no go.

          Thanx for your replies.

            Use 'Audio CD Input'
