Unable write 5.1 WAV file to CD

This is cool application. I just start using it today and it is great. I have one question here and I can't find answer for my question from this forum. Hope anyone of you can help me out.

I converted one wma file to 2 wav files. One is stereo (2 channel), and one is 5.1. I can copy stereo wav file to cd with no problem. However, I can't copy 5.1 wav file to either audio cd or data cd. It says format not support. Did I do anything wrong some where? I am using XP and I use nero and dBpower CD writer all get the same result. I can't get the 5.1 file copy to cd-rw cd. Any answer? Thanks

Normal audio cd is 16-bit 44.1KHz 2 channel stereo, so 5.1 will not be supported for audio cd. It is, I think, a format for DVD's.

I cannot believe that you cannot write the 5.1 wav file to a data cd - whether cd-r or cd-rw - with Nero at least. There is absolutely no verification of content type there - the file is simply written to the cd as is. Unless of course your file is so huge that it exceeds the available space on the cd - all 700 MB or so.

Perhaps what you mean is that you cannot play it back through DAP. There are settings there to enable DirectX sound.

I think I have better understanding about the formats and know why I got errors when trying to write to the cd now.

5.1 format is not the same as the stereo format. One is Wave Format Extensible and one is PCM format. CD audio is not support the "Wave Format Extensible" as far as I know.

About the 5.1 wav file is not able to be copy to data cd problem. I think I just pick the bad lemon in the basket of oranges. I was able to copy other 5.1 wav files to data CD. Don't know why the first 5.1 wav file can't copy to data CD. I tried to converted it several times and it still.... May be just bad luck for me.

Thanks for help. Even with that bad file waste my few hours, I still quite happy. Learn something new today.

I would have to check, but dBpowerAMP CD Writer should accept audio with any number of channels and should convert it to 2 channel it's self.
