Aux Input-Says Music Conv. not installed

I have installed both the Music Conv and the Aux Input. I tried to record something with Aux Input but it say the the Musice Converter isn't install. I left the defaults for the folded installation.

    Thanks,
    GvLaker

OK, what audio format were you trying to record to? The default will probably only handle wav or maybe mp3. Anything else requires that you download their proper codecs from Codec central.

I assume that you are sucessfully playing through a player the particular audio file that you want to capture and that you've enabled the proper input in your soundcard's volume controls (e.g. stereo mix or Wave or overall volume control, depending on your soundcard).

I didn't get to the point where it asked me. I did my options (most like defaults) and then clicked record and It pops up a window saying that I don't have the Music Converter installed, but I do.

Re: Aux Input-Says Music Conv. not installed

Which did you install first, Auxiliary Input or Music Converter? If you installed Auxiliary Input first you could try uninstalling it and reinstalling it over Music Converter.

I suppose you see evidence of Music Converter (dMC) in the form of an icon on your desktop and a listing if you go Start>All Programs. Can you currently use dMC to convert a file (say an mp3 file to wav)? Can you do this by opening dMC first? Can you convert an existing music file on your hard drive by right-clicking on it, selecting "Convert To", selecting appropriate conversion settings, etc? If the suggestion in my first paragraph does not apply, please try these measures and tell us what you find out. It would also be useful to know what your operating system is.
        Best wishes,

Re: Aux Input-Says Music Conv. not installed

It gives me an error that it can't find the codec and I just tried the mp3 to wav.

          Thanks,

OK. It did that both from the dMC program and from right clicking a music file and selecting the "Convert To" option?

Make sure they are both installed to the same location.

Yes, it gave me that error both ways, and yes they are both in the same directory.

Do you have the text of the error message? Does it say something like "The codec required to encode <your filename here> could not be located" or does it say something like "The codec required to decode <your filename here> could not be located?" or does it say something different?

this is the error "The CODEC required to decompress 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\MyMusic\test.mp3' could not be opened."

                      Thanks.
There have been other reports of the same message.
I assume that there is nothing funky about your mp3 file (such as being recorded in 24 bit format, or at a 48 khz frequency). I also assume that you are not running Windows 95 or Windows 98/98SE (both require some extra system files available from the dMC dowload site to function properly-others have sometimes overlooked this in the past).

The message suggests a problem with the mp3 codec. A similar problem was reported some months ago and Spoon issued the following fix which can be downloaded through Codec Central from the following site:

Download and install this file and see if you can convert mp3 to wav again.

If that doesn't work, I think it is time to uninstall dMC, delete dMC and the mp3 codec from the registry, and reinstall. The alternative would be to try a different mp3 codec from Codec Central and see if that works. If you try this, I would suggest trying the Blade Codec.

                      Please keep us posted.

As I said before, they both gave me the error.

                          OK.
Have you tried the advice in paragraphs 2 and 3 of post #11 on this thread?
Let us know what you've tried and what difference, if any these make. If you need help about uninstalling and deleting the dMC and mp3 codec registries, please let us know.

I'm not the world's greatest expert (Spoon is!), but that filepath indicates to me that you also have Nero installed on your machine. If I'm right, could there be some conflict between it and dMC ? Just a thought.

                              Good observation Petriburg!
I have Nero and dMC and they coexist without trouble. On the other hand, there could be a file association conflict. The fix for this problem is outlined in this excerpt from the Support Page for dMC:
"Run dMC Configuration (found in Start >> Programs >> dBpowerAMP Music Converter >> Configuration)".

It's definitely worth a try and it doesn't take long to do.
                              Best wishes,
