I used to rip eac & cdex with fast or extreme preset
but when i rip & use the lame fast extreme or extreme I get files differents in size ,compared to eac or cdex

I update the lame to the last version 396

    Re: lame preset help

How big is the difference? Unless it is measurable in 10's or 100's of kilobytes it is probably not significant. Unless there is a really big difference in size or a problem with sound quality I would recommend not worrying about it.
There are a few threads that talk about differences in file size. As a recall, slight variatins in file size are very common and reflect different ways programs handle different and often non-audio tasks such as tagging. You may want to search around for those threads as I am sure they will be more authoritative than this.

        Re: lame preset help

Check one of your converted files converted with Lame set at alt preset extreme. The Tag should show you an average bitrate of around 250 kbs. The variable bitrate range should be somewhere around 220 kbs to 270 kbs.
For more information on Alt. Preset rate settings check out this link:
In case someone didn't know, LAME MP3 encoder is the highest quality MP3 compressor available. Best results are achieved using it's VBR features....
