Error message when converting to Ogg Vorbis

I have just downloaded the codec to change Wav files to Ogg Vorbis. When I tried to convert I got the following message:

"The CODEC required to compress 'C:\xxxxx.ogg.TEMP.ogg' could not be opened."

Can someone advise me what is wrong please.

It could have happened if you had downloaded the P4 Ogg codec without also downloading and installing the "Normal" Ogg codec. It could happen if the Ogg codec did not install correctly. It could happen if the codec got corrupted somewhere.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the codec, see if that helps. If the codec is corrupted you may also need to delete it from the registry. The advice on how to do that is floating around somewhere. Let us know if you think you need it.
If these steps don't work, let us know what you are trying convert (cd, auxilary input, mp3 file, whatever). This may give us a better elad.

Re: Error message when converting to Ogg Vorbis

      Hi,

I did not download the P4 codec. I have uninstalled the codec and deleted the codec folder from the registry. I don't know if that was the correct proceedure, then re-installed.

I am still getting the same error message appearing.

I am trying to convert a WAV to an Ogg Vorbiss file.

      Any more suggestions please.

You might try some of the suggestions in this thread:
I've seen a few references to this problem on Usenet, but so far no solutions. I have Dbpoweramp installed (no PowerPack) with a number of codecs. So far, it has always worked fine for me. But now when I try to convert a file, the programme suddenly says 'The CODEC required to convert xxx could not be opened'. I first

Briefly, the ideas contained here include the following:
        1) Does this just happen for certain wav files (eg 24 bit wav files)? You might try converting wav to wav (24 bit to 16 bit).
        2) Can you successfully convert from wav to some other format (like mp3)? This suggests a codec problem. Perhaps with your compression settings (since we have ruled out the codec itself).
        3) If you can't convert anything then the problem seems to lie with the Music Converter program. You might try the r11 beta 2 (from the Beta forum) which seems to have certain improvements. Or, assuming you have r. 10.1 you might try uninstalling and reinstalling it as someone in the above mentionned thread did.

Good luck. Please let us know how you make out.

          Problem solved.

I have now checked by converting one 16 bit WAV to and 8 bit one and OK. The converted a Wav to MP3 and OK. Next converted to Ogg Vorbis and OK.

Then I realised I was probably asking too much. I had been converting the original wav to see how much it could be compressed to get minimum file size. I had tried to convert the original Wav to Ogg Vorbis and to change the frequency to 24,000 Hz and from stereo to mono with maximum compression, all at the same time. No wonder it did not work!

That's the problem when you are a novice with sound files.

          Thanks for your help.
