is this the case with alll your mp3 files? i can't reproduce the problem.

what is the original mp3 file? what bitrate?
what version of dmc you using? try the lates here to see if it resolves any issues: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=2261

like i said download and install the latest dmc and see if the problems goes away http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=2261

i just tried it myself and the strange thing is i have no other option than 320/kbps using VBR comming from 128CBR.

ok check if this is done: start-->programs-->dbpoweramp-->configuration-->file association

and check that all codecs are there and ticked.

                Re: have a problem..need help plzzzz with 320 vbr-converting!!

I'm afraid Khan has a secondary problem (the dreaded codec required to ____ cannot be found message) on top of his original problem.

                As to his original problem:
A very easy mistake in setting a VBR setting is that you need to set an upper limit (in this case 320 kbs.) and a lower limit. Properly speaking if you create a VBR file you need to specify the range (instead of saying you have a 320 vbr mp3 file it would be more accurate to say you have, say, a 224 to 320 vbr mp3 file, which will be different than say a 63 to 320 vbr mp3 file). If you have been using a CBR setting and then try to create a VBR setting you will see only one pointer on the scale. Move that up the scale with the left mouse button and you will end up with what appears to be one pointer pointing to a single bitrate but is actually 2 pointers setting the upper and lower ends of the range to exactly the same setting.
To set the upper rate for your VBR setting, right click on the pointer and move it to where you want it to be (in this case, 320). Then left click on the other pointer and move it to the lower rate of your VBR setting (say around 224 kbs.). Now you will have your VBR settings set and you can convert.
Please bear in mind that any attempt to create an ABR file or a VBR file in mp3 with a mean or average bitrate of 320 will have to end up as a 320 CBR file because mp3 files can't go beyond 320 kbs.

                Hope this helps.
                Best wishes,
                Bill Mikkelsen

what i am saying is there was no choice for th eupper limit. it was already set to 320 when i went to convert from 128CBR to 320 VBR. the 320 was already there and not slidable.

Not yet. I don't seem to have this problem with r 10.1.
                        Coincidence?

I'm using the r11 beta 2 now. I still don't see this problem.
How are you requesting the 320 kbs vbr setting? If If I do it with No Preset selected in advanced settings I find that the lower vbr set pointer will be 128 kbs, the upper preset will be 320. I can adjust the upper limit with the right mouse button and the lower limit with the left.
If I click on the upper preset pointer with the left mouse button or if I click on the lower preset pointer with the right mouse button, it will look like I have only a single pointer but from there I can change either the upper and lower limit and see two settings again.
Let me know if it doesn't work this way for you.
                          Best wishes,
                          Bill Mikkelsen

lol, well that solved the problem for me. i never knew i had to use the right button mouse to adjust the upper lever. it just never occured to me. although i wonder why it is set for right click? Spoon must be Ambidextrous?

Btw., reencoding an existing mp3 decreases quality, so a reencoded 320kbit song will sound worse than the e.g. 128kbit source
