ape -> mp3 conversion problem

I am having a problem converting an APE file to mp3. I have installed the proper codec for APE (a couple of times so far) and when I attempt to convert it, the process sits at 0% for 1-2 minutes, then finally aborts with the following message: "The CODEC required to decompress 'filename.ape' could not be opened." How can I get around it?

Possibly a new APE file (created with APE 3.99) - if so get the new APE decoder for dbpoweramp in the Beta section of this forum.
