Disappearing MP3 tag

I'm using Win XP Pro. I'm getting some odd results when I edit a track tag.

- if the track is wma then edits show up in win explorer just fine

- if the track is mp3 then the edited field remains blank in win exp (but shows up correctly in the tag editor)

- if the mp3 tag was written by another program then it show up fine in win explorer, but if i edit it then it goes blank

In summary ... if wma, no problem. If mp3, touching it with the tag editor makes the field go blank.

It is windows handling of ID3v2 tags that is very poor (I am guessing that the tag is id3v2?). Have a look at the file in Windows Media Player, or Winamp - I bet the tag is correct.
