    ripping speeds correct?

this is the first time experimenting with ripping speeds. however when i choose 1x or 40x or slow ripping it all seems the same speed/time to rip using ripping to wav. the example file is 2:21 in lenght.

so i try OGG 48/kbps at 40x with slow ripping and spin up 3sec. it too 1:10 to rip.

then OGG 48/kbps at 1x with slow ripping and spin up 3sec. it only took 37 sec/s.

um, something not right? how do i know at what speed it is actually ripping at? as the ripping speeds shown don't seem to reflect correctly?

The only way to check the speed of the CD is to Rip to 'Test Write', saying that many drives do not implement the drive speed stuff correctly, try x4 speed.

ok well it must be my cd drive then. i tried 4x and 1x to test write and they both show ripping speed 4 - 7x but averaging out around the 4.8 to 5 mostly.

so i shpould be assured it is actually ripping atr one times when i select it regadless of what my ripping speed says? would the time it takes to rip also reflect the real speed it is ripping at? as the speed to rip times appear around the same.

as my 4x and maximum to test write come in at 1:05 and 1:04.

my nero speed results for my DVDrom drive GD-S200 Hitach:

        Re: ripping speeds correct?

after downloading and trying this cdtool: http://cdromtool.sourceforge.net/downloads.php

i used the cdromtool_2002-11-26_SPTI.zip because the other one didn't work for me.

anyhow it doesn't look like it is possible to set my cd to rip at 1x as i can only select minimum 4x. so i guess it depends on your cd rom capabilitites?

Yes only the supported speeds, although I thought all CD drives would work at x1

yes, it's a bit of a mystery to me too. i might search/ask on that cdforum more about it and see what i come up with.
