Converter crashes with very long titles

The converter does not handle very long titles well.

If they are long enough, it simply crashes, but I have also had it make vast trees of sub directories each containing a set of subfolders of the form

titleoftrack
titleoftrac
titleoftr
titleoft
titleof
...
