    Apple lossless encoder workaround

Since we have a ways before spoon is able to complete the apple lossless ENcoder, see this thread:
In the latest iTunes 4.5 and iPod firmware 2.2 there is apparently support for the new Apple lossless codec. I'd be really happy if I could use Sveta to convert my APE files to this new codec as I'm copying them to my iPod. That way I wouldn't lose any quality. Any plans on supporting this? Thanks in advance. --Aaron

I'm considdering other methods of converting my FLAC library to apple lossless. iTunes can import WAV files, but WAV can't hold onto the tags right?

But, the new iTunes does support wma files, and wma has a lossless option as well as the ability to store tags. So If I converted my FLACs to WMA lossless, could I bring them into itunes, tags intact?

Sounds likely. Note that iTunes will automatically start the conversion when you add the WMA file, so make sure that you have set the conversion options in iTunes to ALE before you drop the files in.

Well, it worked. Tags intact, I have a two step process of bringing my FLAC library into iTunes, becoming apple lossless files. My iPod can now have direct access to my lossless library.

Before I start the lengthy process of doing my whole FLAC library, is there any reason to suspect that there may be any loss of quality through this process? I haven't done any careful sound tests yet, but so I haven't noticed any problems.

        No loss in quality.
