    Updating my installations

After several months of computer problems, caused by a failing C drive disc, I'm now updating my dBpoweramp installation. I've downloaded v 3.6 of LAME, and it's working OK, but I can't find the ....\mp3(lame).txt file in the Illustrate folder (and neither can Win XP search facility!) - it just isn't there! I'd like to edit the version number. My installed version of dbMC is rel. 9a., and I want to update this, but should I wait for v 11 to come out of Beta, or install it now? And does this mean uninstalling the present version first, or write over the existing one?
Lastly, my (registered) powerpack is rel.2, which I want to replace with Rel.3, but in the relevant section of your website, you don't include an update tab, only download. So, do I have to download the new version and then re-register? (An update tab for all dBpoweramp applications would be handy). (OS is WinXp pro.)
Hope you and Mrs. Spoon are enjoying some nice spring weather now!

    Re: Updating my installations

the short quick answer is yes go for the latest beta download of dmc/dap and simply download r3 powerpack and install. the install process will ask to uninstall any previous version.

no you will not have to re register powerpack.

        Re: Updating my installations

:o Am I missing something here? I can't find a specific lame cli in codec central. Do I have to "make my own", or is there a download (which I haven't found) specifically for lame? (Sorry if this appears to be a dumb question, but I believe in the "better safe than sorry" approach to these things!). Thanks for your reply Spoon - hope to get your answer soon with a step by step guide to doing this.

The Lame mp3 codec is automatically bundled with the converter so you should be able to see it.

Just right click a music file > Convert to> select MP3 (Lame) from the list.

The Lame CLI referred to is another version that has additional options that are not available in the bundled version.

            Re: Updating my installations

Thanks, Tomb, for your reply. I still think I need the CLI Spoon mentions, but I'm not sure how to download/install it. I installed v3.96 from Mitiok(?), and Lame is definitely operational when I right click and select 'convert to', but ... SPOON has recommended that I install an external CLI, and as far as I'm concerned, he is definitely 'da man' and I try always to follow his teachings to the letter. So, please, Spoon or somebody equally wise in these matters, let me know how to install it.

                Re: Updating my installations

:o Spoon, thanks for your prompt download information. I downloaded that immediately I received it. Before that arrived, I had downloaded v3.96 from the Mitiok site. Now, in the configuration info box, 'Installed Compression Codecs (Write)', it shows mp3 (Lame) - Lame v3.96 (Dibrom's switches) (mp3) AND mp3 (Lame.exe) Lame v3.93.1 (Dibrom's switches) (mp3). {+ all the other info, of course}. Which of these is the active Lame version, and should I delete any other (conflicting, perhaps) information? If so where?
Sorry to be a pain, and I just hope that this info may be of help to others, as well. Regards - Tony
