    24 bit conversion problems?

    hi there,

i was just forwarded this program link and it's awesome! it's exactly what i'm looking for, but there's one major issue i'm having so i can't really use it just yet.

i've got some 24 bit 44kHz files that i need to convert to 24 bit 48 kHz. i set up all the options as needed, but if i use the 24 bit (or keep original) options...the file isn't usable in sonar and/ or soundforge. the "audio type" tag says it's "unknown" instead of listing "24-bit, 48kHz, Stereo." if i use 16bit it works fine...unfortunately...i need 24 bit....

    any ideas/ help?!

    thanx so much in advance!

    paul

      ah...sorry...yes, wav files.

the size and all looks "right" but it won't open due to the "unknown" audio type/tag/ properties.... ;(

dMC will write 24 bit files as WaveformatExtensible, perhaps the programs you mention cannot read these type of files?

ah...never heard of that extension file type?! (tho don't know much about it basically...i know .wav and that's the end of my knowledge about it

and soundforge is extremely standard...i don't think it's really the file type that dbpoweramp is writing as the problem...it looks as if it's just something simple as the "tag" type/ file properties type of thing (if that makes any sense), since the 16 bit output of dbpoweramp works perfectly in everything i've tried. just issues with the 24 bit option.

if you export the files and then rmb > properties on the new files...the filetype seems "unknown" with the 24 bit...but it'll know what it is in 16 bit (16 bit, stereo, etc). ?

oh...i'm running windows XP home if that matters as well.

Try playing the 24 bit file (as created by dMC) in Windows Media Player, can it play it?

yeah...actually windows media can play it.... hmmmmm....

i'll have to dig around and see maybe if there's some importers to the other programs to read this type of file?
