Converting AAC to MP3 5kb?

I have an AAC file that is about 40mb. When I convert it says it converted but the mp3 file is only 3kb. Am I missing something? 5kb with using WAV.

It is not recognising the AAC audio data, are you sure the file is ok? (40MB is large for aac, possibly 1 hours worth of audio).
