    mp3 track length oddity

I've found a little quirk in the last few CDs I've ripped. I use WinAmp to listen to my mp3s, and when I open a playlist it preloads all the tracks lengths. Some of the mp3s I've recently ripped report incorrect track lengths after this preload, but as soon as the song is played the length corrects and shows the right time. This irritated me, so I ripped them a few more times to figure something out. It looks like when I use dBpowerAMP Music Converter (MusicConverter.exe) directly to rip the odd songs again, the length issue doesn't occur. It's only when I use dMC Audio CD Input (CDGrab.exe) , and only sometimes then. I don't like doing this, though, because using MusicConverter directly fills in a lot less information and I have to spend more time doing it myself (Filename, one of the ID tags). Anything I can do to fix this?

I saw this thread below with an issue about track lengths, but it seemed to be a different problem, and I couldn't find the option Spoon said to change.

What version id tags are you using in your mp3 files? I do know that there is a problem when using id tag v2 and vbr encoded mp3 files.

When I use CDGrab.exe (and have the problems) it does both ID3v1 and ID3v2. When I use MusicConver.exe directly it only does ID3v1. I have limited knowledge about all this, but since clearing the tags and re-entering the information doesn't fix anything, I assume that something is being done differently to the non-tag parts of the file by the different .exe's.

I don't really know what "vbr encoded" means, but I'll look for information on that right now.

Just found some info. If by vbr you mean varibale bit-rate, no I'm not using vbr. I use constant for my .mp3's , variable for my .oggs.

Er....I just realized I hadn't checked version in a while. Turns out I was using 9a and that's old. Upgraded to the newest, and wouldn't you know it, the problem went away. Very sorry for wasting anyone's time. I'll consider purchasing the powerpack twice as penance. Thank you for the wonderful product, ye makers of dMC.

          Again, very sorry. =(
