    mp3 cbr better?

I have been testing the vbr and cbr bit rates and i noticed that the sounds are crisper with cbr. I set the preset to high for both vbr and cbr and vbr quality a little over the middle. Should i be setting it to something else?

    I'm testing v3.96 of lame

btw i just got the dailylame.zip from http://mitiok.cjb.net/ It sounds a lot better

"I set the preset to high for both vbr and cbr and vbr quality a little over the middle."

With VBR you have two quality sliders. These set the lowest bitrate for encoding and an upper rate for encoding. If they are both set to the same level you are effectively running CBR rather than VBR.
Although the quality presets indicate that they "may override other settings", a cursory test of my Lame 3.93 codec indicates that it does not. Rather the sliders themselves override the quality presets.
I do not know for sure what quality level level "High" should refer to to in terms of CBR but I am sure that if your slider bar is set to the middle (which appears to be around 96 kbs) it is nowhere near what a high preset should read (which I would imagine to be at least 192 kbs or higher).
So for better quality I would advise you to mover your slider(s) to the right.
    Best wishes,
