    converting quality

in converting to mp3's, umm...does it make a difference in quality if i am converting 128kbp files (eg. .wma or .ra) to 192kbps in mp3s, meaning will i get the higher quality that i am looking for? Or should I stick with a 1:1 ratio?

    Re: converting quality

transcoding will never improve quality of an mp3 file.

going from 128kb/s to 192kb/s will only make the file size larger but cannot at all add audio as what was taken out in the original compression is gone forever.

however sometimes we need to transcode maybe from .ra to mp3 to put on an mp3player for example. just don't expect improvements in audio quaility though.

you can pose this question over at audiosense forums for further discussions too if you want http://www.audiosense.org/forum/
