How do you configure a USB drive for audio mp3 car playback?

My Lexus requires Fat with Master Boot, anything other than that will not play.

I know this is documented somewhere but I can not find it.

I needed a windows PC to make this work.

My iMac is El Capitan.

You should be able to format it as FAT from within OSX, master boot is the default.
