dBmc wont convert to lower bitrate

im tryin to convert a 44hz mp3 to a lesser rate to reduce filesize & increase upload/download times ... im being offered frequencies of 8->48,000hz, but i keep receiving an error message about codex not being available... what ones do i need to get to allow the full range of Hz conversions??? ive looked in codex central but dont really know what im lookin at. tried mp3pro - that's not it.

    any help appreciated. thanks

Are you sure it is dBpowerAMP giving this error? I cannot think of this message anywhere.

          i'm running dmC-r10.1 with realaudio codex/encoder (also installed: FileSelector4b, AuxInput3)

source mp3 file: 192 kbps, 44.1 kHz, stereo, mpeg layer3, Lame encoded.
output mp3 file: 12 kHz, other settings as source. advanced settings unchanged.

error message (screen copy) = "The CODEC required to compress 'C:\......mp3' could not be opened."

i can provide screenshots if you wish?

thanks for yr time in looking at this

Certain bitrates and frequencies do not work together for mp3, try other ones.

Re: dBmc wont convert to lower bitrate

the frustration stems from having a wide variety of bitrate/kHz encoding options in the pull-down menu - few of which are available for actual use.

a context sensitive menu offering only available codex conversions would be welcomed to avoid the trial and error.

              thanks for yr help

Well each new release of Lame changes things, are you willing to go through all combinations and post which work and which do not (BTW it is also dependant on source frequency), it would be a HUGE table of what works and what does not.

ah ha! now i remember! perhaps we can put something in the FAQ about this concern so people can be more aware of it.

Could do, for the next Release of dMC it will show that exact message, no more answering that question! (must have done it 1000 times...)

yep, as a newbie i did go through the FAQ whilst downloading & it'd have saved some frustrating early attempts at conversion.

if anything i think dBmc is a victim of it's own success - it has so many quality features and abilities that i kinda assumed it could do anything i commanded it to ...
