    Error whilst converting

When tyring to convert wav to MP3 (blade or Lame) or to lower quality wav, receive an 'Error Whilst Converting' box with dialog stating the file cannot be opened.

This occurs on very large files. Have tested as low as 11 MB. Works on files that I have tried at around 9 MB, so I assume 10MB is a limit of some sort.

For anyone that is thinking of asking, there is plenty of space on volume (543 GB) for temp file.

Have also un-installed and re-installed and upgraded to latest version (r10)

Is this a built-in limit for some reason?

Please post the whole error message in the box (you can select it and copy).

      Re: Error whilst converting

The file 'L:\SBC 2003\October\10-29-03\55xxxxxxxx_3.wav' could not be opened.

Of course the drive letter, folder, and filename change from day to day, folder to folder.

I also x'd some of the numbers from the filename since it is an actual phone number, to protect the innocent.

The box that pops up with this information has "dBpowerAMP Music Converter" in the title bar.

Then just below that in a grey border area is the text "Errors Whilst Converting:".

Then below that text/gray area in the white dialog box area is the line from above about the file.

Then below that white dialog box area in the bottom right corner of the grey border area is a Close button.

      Thanks

Error occurs even with Test Conversion.

Convert over 1000 files a day.

This error only seems to occur on large files.

After some testing, it appears that 10MB is the size at which this error occurs.

Take last night for example. Had five folders to convert with about 1247 files total.

Out of those 1247 files, eight returned the error. All eight of those files were over 10MB in size. The other 1239 files were all under 10MB in size before conversion.

Hold the mouse over one of the large wave files, in the popup does it show the correct length?

              No.

              The Length shows as 0:00.

The Original Size shows as 0Kb.

The Compression Ratio does not who anything and all other information is not even there (i.e. Format, frequency, Channees, Bits).

Try this, open sound recorder and record a 3 minute wave file - it should save over 10MB, then try to convert that. I am thinking there is something wrong with those other wave files.

                  Re: Error whilst converting

                  That worked fine.

There must be some kind of an issue with the recordings we have, getting some bad header information written or something when they get that large.

Sorry to bother you and thanks for looking into it.

If Sound recorder cannot open them then there is something wrong with the wave files.

                      Re: Error whilst converting

All sound playing applications (Media player, WinAmp, etc.) play the files.

Opened with another music application which stated it couldn't figure out what kind of file it was.

Specified, opened file and saved as a 8-bit wav.

MusicConverter was then able to convert.

Must be some header problems with the recording app we are using when the file reaches a certain size.

                        Howdy.
I have been getting the same error message trying to convert mp4 to anything.
"The file 'C:\folder\file.mp4' could not be opened."
The mouse-hover shows the files as 0 length and 0 size, but explorer shows their real size (84 to 580 Kb).
Any way I can get around this one?

You have installed the mp4 input codec?

It is perhaps not a propper mp4 file.
