MP3 playback sounds like the chipmunks?

Converting CD to MP3. Playback after ripping is running fast. It sounds the chipmunks? How can I stop this from happening? Running windows 98SE.

Try converting to wave, does it sound ok?

Sounds the same. I'm using onboard sound instead of a sound card. Can this be the problem?

No most probabbly the CD drive is not Digital Audio Extraction compatible.
