I am looking to convert some hi-res flac to ogg vorbis quality 10 VBR for use on an iphone XR. Which encoder should I use, the classic one, the sse or the sse3? And do they all have the same sound quality? Thanks

Re: ogg vorbis question
On the highest quality setting all ogg files created by the 3 methods would sound the same.Comment

Re: ogg vorbis question
The sse3 encoder would potentially be best for 160kbps.Comment

Re: ogg vorbis question
So I am using SSE3 (160 kbps) and instead of using volume normalization, I wanted to use replay gain (apply) for the album gain (apply) option. Is this the right sequence?
1. Bit depth 32 bit depth
2. Resample 48 khz (the phones only output at 48 khz with the supplied DAC, no 44.1 option)
3. Replay gain album gain
4. Replay gain (apply) (album gain)
Is this right? or should i put volume normalization too at 1(a)?Last edited by Partha; January 28, 2020, 04:55 PM.Comment

Re: ogg vorbis question
32 bit is probably not needed, you can go 24 bit.
3+4 can be replaced with Volume normalize (set to replaygain).Comment

Re: ogg vorbis question
Yes you are correct, you would need to run as you are, however album gain is written at the end of conversion, you would have to put step 4 on its own after converting with steps 1,2,3.Comment
