convert wma to mp3

I am trying to convert a wma file to mp3 and I am getting the following message.
The CODEC required to compress 'D:\My Music\Various Artists\Disco Pogo For Punks In Pumps Vol. 8\04 Fazers.mp3' could not be opened.

any ideas, I am using the built in lame codec

Try usng different mp3 bitrates and frequenies, some don't work together.
