    VBR header killed

It seems that the tag transfer is overwriting the VBR header that was put into place by LAME. If I convert a WMA with all the tags from ripping in WMP, using LAME set to alt-preset standard...with tag transfer off I get a VBR header but with tag transfer on the VBR hearder seems to be overwritten by the ID3v2 header.

    I am using v10 with the older MP3.dll which doesn't do utf-8

    Any ideas???

It is a problem with ID3v2, it hasn't overwritten it but shifted it up a little.

As far as I can tell it is actually gone. the "Xing" tag is no longer found in the file and the players I have tried can no longer tell the correct time for the file. (iTunes, WMP, Windows Explorer) They have no problems with the files that do not have tags transferred. If you like I can provide a sample file and simple re-creation instructions. You can e-mail me directly at dbpa(at)nirvis(dot)com.

I don't like ID3v2 and use what I think is the best implementation of it, cannot improve it as it was dropped a log time ago.

I'm not sure I understand. It sounds like perhaps you are using an ID3v2 module written by someone else and do not want to debug it.

If it is wiping out Xing headers then I imagine it is also wiping out data since Xing headers are embedded in MPEG frames.

That is correct, the library is on Sourceforge
