    Real Audio Specific MP3

I have some mp3 files that can only be played with the Real Audio player. I figured I would just convert them to wave and then back to mp3 so that I can use them with my portable player. dbpowerAMP won't convert them. I get a 1 - 5 sec long file that is just jibberish. The files all have a .mp3 extention and if I change this then not even Real Audio will play them. The file header start with .RMF, but the file is in mp3 format according to the clip properties in Real Audio. Media Player won't play the files.

    Any ideas?

Try renaming to .ram then use the Real Audio Converter.

Thanks for the reply. I tried renaming the files to .ram as you suggested and converting them with the Real Audio Converter and it just created a 0 sec length file. Yikes!
I tested converting some other files I have from Real Audio format and back with no problem.
I think there is something wrong with the header of the file which is ignored by the Real Audio player. Any ideas?

      THANKS!

It was just a shot in the dark... maybe play the file with some player and record at the same time (loop line out to line in).

I have more than 100 hrs of these files. I have converted more than 30 hrs this way already. I was looking for a short cut. I guess there really are no true short suts in life. ;-)

I think the problem may be that the file lengths are not set right in the header and Real Audio is able to play files with corrupted lenghts and all of the players and dbpower AMP looks for the file length in the header.
Any idea on how yo get around this?

          THANKS!

It can be that you ,or someone, riped the cds with the secure fonction in RealJukebox.
In this case ,nothing to do.
The songs will play only in Real ,and only on this computer.

The files are voice recordings of lectures that were probable riped from tapes. They play fine on my machine in Real Audio so I dont' think they were riped with the secure function. I downloaded them from a website.

              Thanks again.
