converting real audio to mp3

I have a real audio file that when I play it lasts one hour. the real audio file size is 7mb. I am now trying to convert it to an mp3 file. the converter has now been running over three hours. cpu usage has been 100%. how long should the conversion take?

One hour. Although it will take the length of time for your computer to compress to mp3, leave it a few hours.
