    dBpoweramp won't convert m4a to mp3

    Hi all

I'm trying to convert AAC (.m4a) files to mp3 but keep getting this message:
Error converting to mp3 (Lame), '[filename].m4a' to '[filename].mp3'
Error: Unable to load decoder for file type '.m4a', codec not installed? visit 'Codec Central'. [dBCoreConverter::dBCoreConverter]

I thought this codec was part of the standard install? It's been a couple of years since I last used this app so I've uninstalled/reinstalled but it's had no effect. I'm using v13.5 on a Win10 laptop.

    Any ideas?

Thanks for the prompt response, I hadn't done that but now I have I'm getting the same error. Anything else I should try? I've searched the forum for that error but didn't find anything.

Thanks for the prompt response. I've now added those codecs and I can see them in C:\Program Files (x86)\Illustrate\dBpoweramp\encoder but I'm still getting the same error. I've searched this forum for the error message but there were no hits. Anything else I should try?

Which version of dBpoweramp do you have? and did you force the 32 bit version to install?

Apologies for the double-post, I missed the message about moderation the first time.

I'm using v13.5 on a 64bit Win10 laptop. I don't recall seeing a 32 bit installation option, nor any advice to use that at https://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm. Is there a newbies guide I should be referring to?

The m4a decoder is not available stand alone, it has been in dBpoweramp for the last 4 years, you would need a more modern version of dBpoweramp.

Ah right, thanks. I've just found an email sent in 2014(!) about the upgrade discount. I wasn't using it much then so didn't do anything but I'll get the new version. Thanks for your patience
