Anyone using Monkey Audio ?

I just downloaded Monkey Audio Version 3.96 & am having a hard time understading why its converting songs from my cds into rather large .ape files ? Like 4 times larger than an mp3 or wave file (25,000 KB +)

What is it im not understanding here ?

As Nex said, unlike MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis et al, there is no loss of quality when using Monkey's Audio. However, this does make huge files as a result, since the entire audio spectrum is encoded and not just a narrow band, as with the other formats.
