Editing tags on multiple files prior to conversion

I often need to edit/add/delete tags on a number of files before converting them. Edit ID-Tag works well for metadata common to all files, and for deleting tags and album art. However, editing metadata that differs from file to file requires numerous forays into Edit ID-Tag, both to make changes and to check that all information is as I want it.

One can open a window in CD Ripper showing all the tracks from a disc and the metadata from all sources used to populate tags. Metadata can then be edited with all tracks in view. If there is something similar in Music Converter, I haven't found it. (If there is, please stop wasting your time reading this and just tell me how. ) There is the window showing file paths for converted tracks; I am looking for something similar for tag editing.

I envision a grid listing song titles and their associated metadata in rows. Tags could be limited to a configurable default set, or all tags could be shown with default tag names in bold in the list header. One might right-click on a header to delete a tag; that column might then be grayed out so that one could restore it with another right-click before committing edits. Of course, tag deletion could still be done via Edit ID-Tag, since it's quite easy.

When creating a compilation, one must necessarily change track numbers; it would be nice feature for the list to sort by track number on the fly or on demand. And as I like track numbers in <track number/number of tracks> format (e.g., 1/5, 2/5 ... 5/5), it would also be nice to be able to specify track numbers and for the tags to automatically be formatted that way if desired. (This is where using Edit ID-Tag becomes a grind.) Even in the case of a digital album or EP with properly numbered tracks, being able to quickly change the format would be highly useful.

I'm sure there may be other software that can do this, and more; any recommendations are appreciated. I think it would be better, though, to have it available in Music Converter (if it isn't already).
