Convert wav to maximum bit rate mp3

By selecting variable rate and high quality in converting a wav file to mp3 the resulting compressed file has a bit rate of about 150kbps. How would I get that bit rate to about 225 or more kbps?

You would have to select the constant bitrate option (cbr)

Spoon is correct (of course) about using CBR. For what it's worth I prefer to convert WAV to MP3 at 320k/CBR, best overall MP3 quality, and the extra space used is negligible. (appx 3 less 4 minute songs per 100MB of space or appx 143 4 min songs at 256k vs 114 at 320 per GB).
