Trying to convert MP4 to WMA

I downloaded an ablum from iTunes and the format is MP4 or AAC.The files have "protected" after them. Every time I try to convert, the convert gets a fatal error and closes, Is this normal? If it is, is there a way around the problem?

Protected files cannot be converted, you have to burn a CD then rip the CD.
