LOL! User error :D
I have never attempted to convert .asf files directly, maybe that works. I have always first renamed them to .wma just to avoid possible problems. I should test to see if it actually works of its won accord with .asf files too :D
**** UPDATE **** It actually works!I seem to have so little faith in automatic things :D

I found a similar problem in another thread & the suggestion there was to install (convertor & codec) in the default installation directory - which I hadn't done initially. Did that, tested dMC & it worked.

P.S. - As I like to install most programs in a particular directory, I moved the dMC(+codec) installation with a 'change of address' utility. Tested dMC & conversion again & all works well.
