CDs rip or play but with static sound overlaid on top of music

I have DB PowerAmp v16.6 running on a Windows 11 PC and using a built Pioneer DVD-RW model DVR-S21. Any music ripped from CDs is unlistenable as the sound is overlaid by a constant static sound. Likewise if I simply try to play a CD using DBPA. However CDs play fine using other apps e.g. Windows Media Audio Player. I can't work out the cause. Can anyone help?
