Cut - Delete large blocks of "dead air"

I have set up the DB recorder to bring audio tapes from our church teachings to the internet.

    I really works super.

However, often times I am working on other projects around the house or I just want to start a tape and come back later to save the file.

Is there a way to delete large blocks of "dead air" at the end of the recording by marking the end point and then moving to the end of the session and marking again .. and then "Cut" ing the whole spce out?

    Thank you.

You might need an audio file editor (or WAV editor) to do that that.

Have a look at SoundEngine or Audacity (both are free), or even CoolEdit (commercial). They should do what you are looking for.

I assume you are recording to MP3 using Auxiliary input. Go to Options and check "Auto End When VU Drops Below 5% For 10000 ms". It will stop recording automatically after 10 seconds (10000ms) of silence (I find 5% and 10 seconds works well with most cassette tapes). You can use MP3DirectCut (free MP3 editor) to delete any silence or garbage from the start or end of your recording.
