Rip to ra instead of rm

    Hi,

Is there any way I can configure and convert mp3 song to ra (real audio) instead of rm (real media). I noticed the rm file is heavier than ra file under same song with same lenght of time. I am a powerpack user but could find any instruction how to convert to ra from mp3. Please help.

I thought there was no difference between Ra and Rm? infact you can rename .rm to .ra

      Hi Spoon,
Thanks for your reply to my question. You are right. I can easily change the file extension from .rm to .ra. But that's not the point. The point is the file size itself. I use my friend's PC which ihas software Acoustica mp3 Audio Mixer installed to convert a mp3 song (5 min) to .ra with bitrate 21 kbps. File size of the encoded .ra song is 745 kbps (stereo). However, when I use dBpowerAMP music convert the same song using 21 kbps, file size of .rm file is zoom up to 1.35 MB. I don't notice the sound quality different between those two encoded songs. A several more test have show file size under rm is heavier than ra.

I hope dBpowerAMP can be configure to convert music file to .ra instead of rm.

Re: Rip to ra instead of rm

        Hi,

I wrote the Real Audio codec and as far as I am aware there is no difference
between .ra (Real Audio) and .rm (Real Media, with just audio content) files.

I have a suspicion that this must be a question of using the correct codec
settings. You should make sure you are using "Single Rate" ("Sure Stream"
makes much bigger files) and check the sample frequency (this will also have
an effect of the file size).

If you want dBPowerAMP to create files with a different extension (name)
just change the following registry value:

        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Illustrate\dBpowerAMP\D MCRMExt

You can make this anything you like but it's best to keep it to the following
        values: ".ram", ".rm", ".ra", etc...

        Hope this helps,
        Daren.
