    Urhent Problems ! Help Out

    hello administrator
    i just wanna clarify some questions

    1 - what is no jitter correction [ my drive is 2 months old asus 52 x max ]
    2 - what is rip to ram and rip and encode at the same time?does it make any temp wave file while ripping or it does real time ?
    3 - what is the best setting for OGG ..if i need the quality , size doesn't matter !
    4 - should i use stereo or joint stereo with 192-256kbps vbr encoding ?
    5 - what is the use of crc check ?
    6 - what is the use of dc offset ? [ DSP Effects ]

    I'll answer as best I can..

    1 - Your drive is recent, no need for jitter correction in theory. Jitter correction is used when ripped files sound crackled if I am not mistaken.

    2 - Rip to Ram and Rip and Encode at same time are exactly what they sound like. Rip to ram speeds up the ripping process by preventing hard disk access, while rip and encode at same time removes the need for a wav temporary file

    3 - If size is not a concern, only quality, may I suggest going for a lossless codec like Monkey Audio or Flac? Ogg is a lossy codec, which means no matter what encoding setting you use, you are losing quality. Though if you still want to use Ogg, I'd suggest using Variable Bitrate Quality.8 (or 256 kbps).

    4 - If you are going for quality, use stereo.

    5 - CRC check is for quality check, if the CRC check matches, the file is correct.

    6 - That, I have no idea. But, if you are going for quality, no DSP effects should be used, IMHO.

      Using anything above -q 6 is useless, you will NOT hear any difference AT ALL. check out the HA forums.

      Again, wrong. Joint Stereo is the best way to encode Ogg files, and even Lame MP3 files, and mostly everything. The fact that Stereo is best is a very old myth from the days of the Xing encoder (which sucked at Joint Stereo encoding).

        I know this is 100% wrong because i can hear the differrence. even in a blind test i did i could tell when a q-6 or q-8 file was being played.

        it depends on certain factors as well.

        1. your own hearing ability
        2. your sound card
        3. your speakers
        4. or your headphones.

          The quality settings will also make a lot of difference with different type of music. Some type of music are less prone to degradation than others.

            The DC offset will offset the audio level, no real need to use it.
